Scuba Instruction in Sarasota & Manatee County, FL

Sarasota is Kaitlyn’s home water. She lives and teaches here, dives the passes and nearshore ledges year-round, and can usually be in the water with you twenty minutes after leaving the dock.

Where you’ll dive in Sarasota

Real sites, with honest depths. Kaitlyn will tell you which of these your certification level actually suits before you book anything.

Point of Rocks (Nokomis) 5–25 ft

A natural rock ledge just off the beach at the south end of Nokomis — shallow, fishy, and one of the few spots on this coast you can walk in from shore with a tank.

The Venice Boneyard 15–35 ft

The fossil beds south of the South Venice jetties, reachable only by boat. Sand, phosphate rock, and prehistoric shark teeth. This is the shark-tooth specialty Kaitlyn teaches.

Longboat Pass & New Pass 10–30 ft

Inlet structure with real current on a running tide. Good for building competence on a moving-water dive once your skills are established.

Siesta Key & Lido nearshore hardbottom 10–20 ft

Patchy natural hardbottom close to the beach — forgiving water for the first open-water dives of a certification course.

Home water, and it shows

An instructor who lives on the water teaches the local conditions differently. Kaitlyn knows which sides of which passes are divable on which tide, which sand off Venice has been giving up teeth lately, and when the Gulf is going to lay down enough to run a certification dive comfortably rather than merely legally. That local read is most of what you are paying a private instructor for.

What she teaches out of Sarasota

Open Water certification through Divemaster, private one-on-one lessons, scuba refreshers for divers who have been dry a while, and the guided shark-tooth fossil specialty offshore of Venice. If you are certified already and just want to get back in the water with someone patient, that is a single afternoon.

She comes to you. Kaitlyn is based in Venice and travels for instruction across Florida — Sarasota included. Give her as much lead time as you can and she arranges the pool, the boat and the dates around your group rather than handing you a fixed class calendar. Travel cost and scheduling depend on distance, group size, and how many days you need; she quotes it directly when you send your dates.

Scuba instruction in Sarasota — questions

I certified years ago and haven’t dived since. Where do I start?

A refresher. Kaitlyn runs them as a relaxed session covering gear assembly, buoyancy, mask clearing, and regulator recovery until it feels automatic again — then you go dive something worth diving.

How long does Open Water certification take in Sarasota?

Most divers finish across a couple of weekends, depending on weather and pace. Academics are self-paced online beforehand, so the in-water days are spent in the water rather than in a classroom.
