Scuba Instruction in Tampa Bay, FL

Kaitlyn travels to Tampa Bay for private and small-group instruction. The bay hands you the two things a certification course actually needs: sheltered shallow water, and a short drive inland to springs with visibility you can count on when the Gulf gets ugly.

Where you’ll dive in Tampa Bay

Real sites, with honest depths. Kaitlyn will tell you which of these your certification level actually suits before you book anything.

Tarpon Springs & Anclote River jetties 10–30 ft

Shallow, structure-heavy rock at the mouth of the Anclote — the classic first ocean dives in this part of the state. Usually calm enough to run open water training dives without a long boat ride.

Pinellas & Clearwater artificial reefs 30–60 ft

A permitted artificial reef network a few miles offshore of Clearwater and Pinellas beaches. Enough structure to hold fish and enough sand to practice skills without a crowd.

Blue Grotto (Williston) to 100 ft

The clearest water in Florida — roughly 100 feet of visibility and a steady 72 °F. About 1 hr 45 min inland; the site instructors reach for when the Gulf is blown out.

Devil’s Den (Williston) cavern, 60 ft

A spring-fed cavern inside a collapsed cave, same 72 °F water. Dived as a cavern (never as a cave) with an instructor. Oddly beautiful, and always divable.

Why Tampa Bay works for a course

Tampa Bay is the best place in Florida to start diving if your schedule is fixed and your patience for weather is not. The bay itself is protected water, so confined-water and early open-water sessions can happen on days when the Gulf is 3 feet and rising. Inland, the spring caverns at Williston hold clear water at a constant 72 °F in any wind direction — which means a blown-out weekend in Tampa Bay delays nothing.

How a Tampa Bay course runs

Academics are self-paced online so you finish them before the water sessions. Kaitlyn arranges pool access local to you for the confined-water skills, then runs your four open-water dives in the bay, on the nearshore reefs, or in the springs — whichever the sea state and your comfort level call for. Two tanks or four, one diver or a family of four: she plans the week around you rather than slotting you into someone else’s boat.

She comes to you. Kaitlyn is based in Venice and travels for instruction across Florida — Tampa Bay included. Give her as much lead time as you can and she arranges the pool, the boat and the dates around your group rather than handing you a fixed class calendar. Travel cost and scheduling depend on distance, group size, and how many days you need; she quotes it directly when you send your dates.

Request Your Dates

Scuba instruction in Tampa Bay — questions

Can you run the pool sessions near me in Tampa Bay?

Yes. Pool access is the main logistics item Kaitlyn sorts out when you request dates — she arranges it local to you rather than asking you to drive to Venice for every session.

What happens if the Gulf is too rough on our dive day?

There’s a plan B built in. The spring caverns inland at Williston hold clear water and a constant 72 °F regardless of wind, so a rough Gulf does not have to cost you the trip.

Do you teach private lessons in Tampa, or only groups?

Both. Private one-on-one instruction is the most common booking — it suits nervous first-timers and anyone whose schedule can’t absorb a four-person class pace.
